The Taj Mahal is covered with marble inlay known as 'parchin kari' (similar to an Italian technique known as 'pietre dure'). Colored gemstones including lapis lazuli, carnelian, malachite, agate and garnet, depict the colorful flowers of India while Koranic verses are depicted in black marble.
